I had the great honor of sitting down with Lindsey McLaughlin the other day and got to talk with her about how she started her modeling career. Speaking with Lindsey reminded me just how much fun it is to be care-free and open to trying new things. Lindsey's story on what it was like growing up with a dream of becoming a model is truly inspiring.
Brianna: What was it that made you want to start modeling and how did you get
into the business?
Lindsey: I always wanted to be a model since I was a child. When I was 16 I signed with an agency for a few years. I received quite a few jobs being an extra on a TV show or Movie. It was a lot of fun but I stopped modeling for a few years after that to focus on school and track (I was really big into running). I now hand model for a beauty company, KISS products, focusing mainly on the imPRESS Press on Manicure brand. I absolutely love it and enjoy working with the make-up artists, hair stylists, and wardrobe assistants.
Brianna: That's awesome, I love that you had the drive and passion to model at such a young age. I find it really impressive that you stuck with it and never forgot how important it is to you. I know that you’ve modeled for stores such as Dsquared, when you’re being styled on a shoot is there anything you really enjoy, can you talk about what the styling process is like?
Lindsey: I love all the gorgeous clothes I get to wear - I feel like a star. My favorite part about the styling process is the makeup. Once makeup is on my face I feel alive and ready to work it! After makeup, hair and my clothes are finally on - my favorite part is putting on the gorgeous shoes. As a little girl I used to sleep in high heels and would fight my mom to keep them on as she would try to take them off before bedtime. Once I put on some pretty shoes I feel like I am ready for the runway.
Brianna: Oh my goodness I am dying over the shoes! I find that so funny. Truthfully, I was like that too. I loved dressing up in my mother's heels. I think it's great you developed you passion for clothing so young, I love that you are so into it, I really admire that. Speaking of clothing, I noticed in one of your photo shoots you were wearing a gorgeous H belt. Do you have a favorite clothing brand, store, or designer?
Lindsey: My favorite clothing store is LF stores in South Hampton because of the trendy unique outfit options. Whenever I am in there someone is always helping me style outfits and handing me accessories to top them off. It is like I have my own personal stylist. I also love Mixology in Woodbury. I never leave empty handed at that store. I am OBSESSED with Gucci - It is my #1 favorite brand of all time - I am definitely a part of that gang.
Brianna: I love Gucci, you have great taste. I noticed how you are always sporting perfectly paired outfits on your social media, you always look like a million. Can you tell us about your personal style?
Lindsey: I would describe my style as unique, trendy, and bold. I love finding new styles that no one has discovered yet! I love mixing and matching patterns together. I love anything leather. I am a total shoe gal! My closet is filled with shoes. I love knee-highs in the fall and heels and espadrilles in the summer. I have sneakers in so many different colors. I am also a slipper fiend. I love the fuzzy pink slippers.
Brianna: I really like everything you're mentioning. I love that shoes are your thing, I agree with you that fuzzy slippers are the most fun. Keeping on the topic of clothes can you tell us about the shoots you do - do you get to keep any of the clothes you wear during the shoot, and are there any particular pieces
you’ve really enjoyed wearing?
Lindsey: Unfortunately no, the stylists and photographers like to get them back since they may need them for other photo shoots. I love the jackets I get to wear. They are usually big, furry, or ripped denim - those jackets are my favorite.
Brianna: Aw, I'm sure that's a bummer not being able to keep them but I've got to believe that it's a great time wearing them. I was looking at your Instagram, @lindseymclaughlinn, and noticed all of your stunning images. Is there anything that goes into managing your image on Instagram?
Lindsey: Yes, most of my images are edited by my best friends Kristina and Julia. Half of my images are taken by my boyfriend #boyfriendsofinstagram. They help make my profile colorful and fun, it matches my lifestyle/fashion vibe. It takes a lot of effort to post an image especially if some need to be retouched. I enjoy posting images to hopefully inspire others to be themselves and enjoy life.
Brianna: I love your vibe, aura, and overall message. The way that you live your life inspires me, I think that it is so important to have fun and truly be yourself. I really look up to how you are so passionate, humble, and positive. You are stunning, I would have to imagine that to do what you do, it's not easy. Do you do anything special to keep your appearance up, do you have a special regimen of any kind?
Lindsey: Yes, one hundred percent. Modeling is not as easy as it looks. You are standing and
working it for many hours in one day so you must take care of yourself. You have to make sure your skin is flawless for every shoot. After each shoot I immediately take make up off my face and lather lotion all over after a long day of work. I do a lot of hand modeling so I groom my nails and cuticles as well as making sure my skin is soft. I wear a lot of face, hand and foot masks before bed. I drink tea and lots of water throughout the day. I try to work out when I have free time. I like to run, bike or swim to maintain my energy. This helps me to stay motivated and balanced.
Brianna: That all sounds like hard work. I'm sure you are very diligent about keeping yourself up. That is wonderful that you stay so active. I just have one last question for you. If you weren’t doing what you are now what would you be doing?
Lindsey: My goal in life is to own my own e-comm boutique. I love fashion and styling people. I want to create a website that can set new trends and styles for people. I would put all my time into this if I wasn’t doing what I was doing now. I also like to volunteer for charities and people in need – I would love to put more time and energy into that.
Brianna: I love the idea about a website helping people style themselves. I wish you the most luck and tremendous success in all of your endeavors, Lindsey. It was such a pleasure having you here and talking with you.
